Improved scalability and performance with On Premise Oracle To Cloud Data Warehouse
The Challenge
A multinational company wanted to benefit from migrating on-premise oracle to cloud data warehouse with advanced analytics, data mining, and reporting, by migrating from an on-premise Oracle-based platform into a scalable cloud data warehouse solution. The solution to be migrated had two terabytes-sized Oracle databases. Advanced analytics queries were in many cases timing out and underlying infrastructure had to be optimized for OLAP rather than OLTP.
How It Was Solved
Azure Synapse platform was used as a data warehouse solution for OLAP. Oracle data was moved using Azure Data Factory workbooks. All OLTP-specific workloads were migrated to Azure SQL Managed Instance.
The Results
The final solution provided unparalleled scalability and improved performance running advanced queries using MPP capabilities of Azure Synapse. The performance of OLTP operations was greatly improved by using SQL Managed Instance capabilities. Data Warehouse and Operational Database were tightly integrated and synchronized using ETL capabilities of Azure Data Factory.
